The Witcher 3might just be one of the most legendary modern RPGs you can pick up and play. It’s filled with dozens of hours of lore, plenty of unique decisions for you to make, and hundreds of hours of questing.

With so much to do, it’s also possible for you to play The Witcher 3 the ‘wrong’ way. You can make all the decisions Geralt never would in canon, hinder your own gameplay experience in drastic ways, and ignore the entire concept of an RPG. With more room for choice, you can play your favorite games however you want — it just doesn’t mean it’s always right.

10Be A Neglectful Dad

The main quest of The Witcher 3 has you on the hunt for Ciri before the Wild Hunt can get their hands on her first. Thanks to the sheer level of control you have, you can be the world’s most neglectful dad if you really want to.

You can take your time on all those side quests, especially the meaningless ones, and when you do finally find Ciri, you can be completely uninterested in her plight. This will almost certainly lead you to one of the bad endings, but those are the breaks for neglectful sad dads.

9Be A Villainous Geralt

If you do decide to play as a neglectful dad, you may get a taste for a bit more of a twisted and darker Geralt. you’re able to make the iconic fantasy character a much angrier and quick-to-violence sort of character with some simple dialogue options in your encounters.

you may go around killing some vitally important characters who can aid you later on, or just leave them for dead if you really want to. Your Geralt can be an absolute terror and the kind that would voluntarily join the Wild Hunt.

8Ignore The Sidequests

You could be the kind of person who sees what the main drive of the game is and decide that Geralt would do everything in his power to find Ciri as quickly as possible. To do that, you’d have to completely ignoreall the wonderful side questsand side adventures Geralt can have.

You’ll completely miss out on tons of key character-building and world-building moments in The Witcher 3, but you’ll know you did everything you could to be the best dad possible for Ciri. Who needs all those extra hours of fun? That’s what new-game plus is for.

7Don’t Explore At All

The world of The Witcher 3 is one of the most expansive in fantasy RPGs. There are tons of secrets that you may find across the land that you won’t even manage to spot as you’re side-questing.It’s on you to discover the world.

Of course, you can completely skip all of that exploration because, just like side quests, exploration would also take away from finding Ciri. If you roleplay, you can even justify it as Geralt having already seen much of the lands anyway.

6Don’t Go Treasure Hunting

You could go out and hunt for treasure across the land, something that will ultimately aid you in your quest to find Ciri, but that would also be time-consuming. You’re on a totally (but not really) time-sensitive quest that requires your utmost attention.

You don’t need all those fantastic sets of armor you can find and craft. All you need is that base Witcher armor and a little bit of luck. Monsters probably don’t care about luck, and will absolutely demolish you at higher levels, but that’s a price you’ll have to pay for not hunting for treasure.

5Don’t Make Geralt Your Own Character

If you’re like millions of other Witcher fans, you might play Geralt as is intended from the lore of the series that’s been establishedby plenty of books. If you’re a true renegade, you could make Geralt your own unique character and make the decisions for him.

Maybe a certain character is rubbing you the wrong way and you decide that they need to be stopped. Maybe you’re Geralt just doesn’t like monsters and is set on slaying all of them, even if they mean no harm to humans whatsoever. You could avoid all that and just let Geralt be his usual self.

4Knowing Nothing About The Books

A lot of The Witcher fans will say that you absolutely have to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the world through reading all of the novels, but you don’t have to do that. Sure, you won’t understand hundreds of lines of dialogue to their full extent, but reading takes a while.

you’re able to come to grips with understanding vital backstories through just a few exchanged lines and just assume that Geralt has a rich history with every character you come across. Somehow, that kind of is the case, but still, books or no books, have fun.

3Taking On Quests Way Above Your Level

There are so many quests in The Witcher and they are somehow perfectly balanced with the story progression to allow for small breaks in the story to explore elsewhere. This means you may always tackle quests at an adequate level.

If you’re a massive The Witcher 3 veteran, you may decide to just go ahead and take on high-level quests as soon as you get them. You’ll learn that most of them really aren’t level-dependent if you havethe right tools for some monster slayinganyway.

2Give Yourself Realism Requirements

There aren’t any major realism factors you need to keep in mind when playing The Witcher 3. You have to be concerned about breathing while swimming, but that’s mostly it. If you want to go hard, rely on meditation for healing, eat and drink throughout the day, and always use monster oils.

You could add to this by limiting Geralt’s Witcher abilities and avoiding using signs altogether. There are plenty of unique aspects to a run like this that you can toy with, but it would all be self-imposed to add a new layer of complexity to everything.

1Pick Triss

Don’t shoot the messenger, but in the canon of The Witcher series, Geralt would absolutely never pick Triss Merigold over Yennefer of Vengerberg.Geralt’s true love for the entire series is Yennefer, and Triss is little more than a fling outside of The Witcher games.

Everyone loves Triss to some degree in The Witcher 3, but anyone who has the added context from the rest of the series knows that there are few decisions as wrong as this one. Your Geralt is yours to control, but just based on the canon, it’s got to be said that this is the wrong way to play.
