What Is An Obelisk?

Found all over the world,an obelisk is an extremely magical artifact that is as dangerous as it is powerful. There are said to bemultiple obelisks, each with a different magical effect, so no two obelisks will have the same type of magical effect. Obelisks now are no longer as strong as they once were, however. The knowledge of building them has been passed down, but they’ll never be as powerful as the original obelisks that sent worlds back in time created by the Weavers. Wizards can still make obelisks with lesser magic.

Obelisks vary in size and scopebut, for the most part, are easy to identify. They vary in height; however, most are tall and come to a pyramid top. They’remade of different materials, some using obsidian stone, others using metal, and others using unknown substances.

Who Created The Obelisk?

Very little is known about the original creators of the obelisk. Referred to asthe Weavers, these creatures have so little lore and history thatnot much more is known about them aside from their work on and with obelisks. They’re portrayed as alien-like creatures with large black eyes and multiple arms, exuding magical energy.

So little is known about them becauseVecna used their own obelisk creations to erase them from history. The Weavers and their secrets of how to create these magical artifacts were removed from history. While some information has permeated history, allowing for much lesser obelisks that aren’t nearly as powerful, the true extent of what the Weavers created will never be duplicated.

Obelisks Throughout D&D

Quitea few famous adventures reference an obelisk and the power it wields. Only one of these adventures references the powerful might of an original obelisk created by the Weavers.

The best part about these obelisks is that they’re great for adding to any adventure if you ever need to change the fate of how reality is unfolding or has unfolded in the past. There’s sure to be more to learn about these mysterious magical items.
