Summary
ThePokemonfranchise is filled with several items. Some are used for healing, while others can cause a Pokemon in your care to evolve. One of the most iconic items in the series has to be the Poke Ball. Poke Balls are what you’ll utilize to capture the various Pokemon throughout the franchise.
These devices come in a variety of types with different levels of availability. While some Poke Balls are easy to obtain, others are far rarer. From event-only Poke Balls to ones only obtainable in prior games, let us look through some of the rarest Poke Balls.

8Safari Ball
Introduced in Pokemon Red and Blue, the Safari Ball is a standard Poke Ball with a camo pattern on the top half of the ball. The Safari Ball is only found inthe Safari Zone, an area featured in the first four Generations of Pokemon. Within the Safari Zone, trainers receive thirty Safari Balls to use while attempting to capture rare Pokemon.
Starting in Generation Five, the Safari Zone wasn’t traditionally included in Pokemon games, causing the Safari Ball to become a rare sight. With most Pokemon housed inside coming from previous Generations.

7Sport Ball
Found in the Jhoto Region, the Sport Ball is a unique Poke Ball used within the Jhoto Bug-Catching competition. The appearance varies greatly depending on the medium. In the games, The Sport Ball is a standard red Poke Ball with a smaller Poke Ball pattern on the top half. In the Pokemon anime, it is a green Poke Ball with a floral design.
While having no specific catching modifiers, this Poke Ball is a rare find as it is only found in one region and only used during a completion. With that in mind, since you compete multiple times, you’ll likely amass multiple bug-type Pokemon with the Sport Ball.

6Apricorn PokeBalls
Debuting in Pokemon Gold and Silver, Apricorn Poke Balls are special Poke Balls that feature unique catching effects. There are seven Apricorn Poke Balls, including the Level Ball, Love Ball, Friend Ball, Lure Ball, Heavy Ball, Fast Ball, and Moon Ball. Each of these Poke Balls has a unique appearance based onwhat color Apricornyou used to craft them.
Initially, Apricorn Poke Balls were exceedingly rare due to only being obtainable in Jhoto games. Later Pokemon titles would include newer ways to obtain them. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet specifically, however, completing multiple pages of your PokeDex will slowly unlock these rare Poke Balls. Allowing for use on your favorite Pokemon.

5Beast Ball
In Pokemon Sun and Moon, players were introduced to Ultra Beasts, Pokemon from different dimensions with bizarre appearances. With these being unique Pokemon, they required a specific type of Poke Ball. Thus, the Beast Ball was created. A Poke Ball with a blue grid pattern and four yellow points, Beast Balls are notably effective at capturing Ultra Beats.
They aren’t as effective on ordinary Pokemon. While Beats Balls were initially limited to the Generation Seven games, they can be obtained by completing the PokeDex in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

4Master Ball
The Master Ball is the best Poke Ball in the entire franchise. This Poke Ball first appeared in Pokemon Red and Green and was given to the player by the president of Silph Co. after defeating Giovanni. Featuring a purple top half with red orbs and a large M,the Master Ballwill never fail to capture any Pokemon it is used against.
Considering their effectiveness, the Master Ball has always been limited to one per playthrough, with no other way to acquire one. The rarity of the Master Ball has even persisted. While other Balls can be passed down via breeding, the Master ball will never be passed to the offspring of a Pokemon in one.

3Dream Ball
Appearing first in Pokemon Black and White, the Dream Ball is a special Poke Ball with a pink and purple color scheme featuring a crescent moon on top. This Poke Ball was directly tied to Generation Five’s Dream World, a magical location that players could access through their computers to obtain rare Pokemon.
The Dream Ball is what these Pokemon were housed within upon being caught. The Dream World would close down upon the release of Pokemon X and Y, and the Dream Ball would go with it. Luckily for players, similar to other Poke Balls before it, Through Mystery Gifts and the Generation Nine PokeDex rewards, the Dream Ball would see the light of day again.

2Park Ball
An eye-catching Poke Ball seen in Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. The Park Ball has a yellow top with a blue middle and orange center.
This rare Poke Ball is only usable in Pal Park, an area where a player’s older Pokemon would be upon transfer to the Generation Four game. Due to this, the Park ball is impossible to obtain in-game unless you transfer a Pokemon from the first three Generations.

1Cherish Ball
One of the few Poke Balls not obtainable through regular play, the Cherish Ball is a Poke Ball that event Pokemon are often held in. The Cherish Ball has a red and black color scheme and debuted in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl through event Pokemon giveaways. Historically, mythical Pokemon such as Darkai and Shaymin would be given away to players in Cherish Balls to show how special they were.
This has extended to Pokemon used by top-level competitive players and other special occasions. Due to this, the Cherish Ball cannot be received through normal gameplay, as no NPC will gift you the item without an event. This stipulation has made the Cherish Ball exceedingly rare.
