Health in video games is usually pretty simple; as you take damage, a number or a meter goes down, and when it hits zero, it’s lights out. That’s all technically true inWarhammer 40,000: Darktide, but the game’s health bar is a bit more complex and can be a bit dense for newer players.
The result is a game with more options for managing your survival, and builds that interact with damage in vastly different ways. If you’re wondering what all those lines and colors in the corner of your screen mean, you’ve come to the right place!

What Are Wounds In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide?
Your characters Wounds are simply a measure ofhow much damage they can take before going down. Some Curios and Talents will give you additional Wounds, increasing the amount of overall health that you have.
Your health bar - normally displayed in white - isdivided into several chunks, all the same size. Each chunk is one Wound. If you have more Wounds, then you have more chunks, and therefore more health.

Wounds are simply a representation of your maximum health; emptying a Wound doesn’t prevent you from healing back to full, though Corruption can temporarily block your Wounds from recovering (see below)
What Is Toughness In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide?
Above your health bar is a thinner blue bar; this represents your character’s Toughness. Think of Toughness asextra healththat’s easier both to gain and lose.
Whenever you take damage, most of it will be applied to your Toughness first as long as you have any available. Once your Toughness is gone, enemy attacks will deal damage directly to your health.

Some powerful attacks deal damage to both Health and Toughness simultaneously, so you’re not completely safe if your Toughness is full.
There are many Talents that let you recover Toughness, so be sure to look over your class’s Talent Tree to make sure you can quickly heal up by doing the things your character is best at. It’salways better to take Toughness damage when possible!
It’s also worth noting that yourecover Toughness fasterif you have teammates nearby. Stick together to stay alive!
What Is Corruption In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide?
Taking damage while downed, or being hit by attacks from daemonic enemies, will cause your character to gainCorruption.Your health bar will slowly turn purple, indicating the amount of Corruption you’ve gained.
Corruption blocks your health bar from refilling, effectively reducing your maximum HP until it’s removed. If your Corruption fully engulfs your health bar, you’ll be capturedand require rescue from the surviving Operatives.
The only way to remove Corruption is toget a full heal by visiting a Medicae Station;health packs dropped by team members will not heal you past your current Corruption.
