Clerics are one of the strongest classes inBaldur’s Gate 3, capable of buffing their allies without compromising on offensive capabilities. This hybrid of support and damage is perfectly showcased in their Divine Intervention ability, a class feature that lets them call upon their deity to perform what can only be described as a miracle.

Smart use of Divine Intervention can immediately end combat encounters, replenish your party’s resources, or even bring back fallen companions. Such power is limited, however, and can only be used once per playthrough. Before you decide to call upon such powers, it’s important to understand how Divine Intervention works, what all four variants offer, and what strategies exist that allow you to use this class feature multiple times on your journey.
What Is Divine Intervention?
Divine Intervention is a Cleric feature unlocked at level ten, available to all Cleric subclasses. Since it is technically a class feature, you’ll find it listed under the actions tab on your skill bar, notunder the spells tab. Unlike most class mechanics in Baldur’s Gate 3,Divine Intervention may only be usedonceon your character per playthrough.Once cast, it cannot be used by the same character again. However, if multiple party members are Clerics, each Cleric can cast Divine Intervention once.
Such limited usage is necessary because this is easily the strongest class feature in the game. Once selected, the Cleric will be given four ways ofchanneling their patron deity’s power:

All Divine Intervention Variants
Since you can only cast Divine Intervention once, it’s important to fully understand what each variant does. The effects of every variant and recommended use cases can be found below.
Arm Thy Servant
Call upon your deity to grant you a legendary weapon forged in the fires of your holy bond.
Arm Thy Servant creates theDevotee’s Mace, aLegendary +3 Mace that deals a bonus 1d8 radiant damage with attacks.Additionally, this weapon also grants theHealing Incense Aurabonus action. Activating this will create an aura around your character that heals the caster and nearby allies for 1d4 HP at the start of the caster’s turn. This aura has a nine-meter radius, lasts ten turns, does not require concentration, and may be cast once per Long Rest.

As for the weapon,a +3 Legendary Mace at level ten is incredibly strong and worth the Divine Intervention cast.Stronger weapons are available in Act 3’s tougher side content, but considering this weapon can be obtained immediately after level ten and has a useful healing ability, the Devotee’s Mace is absolutely worth considering.
Opulent Revival
Resurrect fallen companions with half their hit points, and restore all nearby allies as if they had Long Rested.
Opulent Revival releases a wave of restorative energy in an 18-meter radius.Slain companions will be resurrected with half their HP, while living party members will gain the benefits of a Long Rest. The second effect is why this ability is so strong, as it allows you to restore your party’s spell slots, class features, and HP at any time. This can be invaluable for tough boss fights or side quests that prevent you from returning to camp.

In general,Opulent Revival is best used during tough boss fights in Act 3or situations where you must complete back-to-back encounters without resting. The latter is an extremely rare occurrence, but Act 3 does have its fair share of difficult boss encounters. For situations where you may’t cast Sunder the Heretical, Opulent Revival is worth using.
Sunder The Heretical
Call upon your deity to bring forth a radiant cataclysm upon all nearby enemies.
Sunder the Heretical is effectively an instant-win button for combat encounters. When cast, all enemies within 15 meters receive 8d10 radiant damage, halved if the target succeeds on a Wisdom saving throw. This is arguably thestrongest AoE spellin Baldur’s Gate 3, but it can only be cast once.

Without spoiling specific encounters, Sunder the Heretical can trivialize some of Act 3’s hardest encounters. Certain combat encounters introduce over a dozen enemies that your party must slay. This is normally quite difficult, but a single use of Sunder the Heretical can clear the entire screen of enemies. If you’re stuck on a particularly tough encounter, use Sunder the Heretical. No combat encounter in Baldur’s Gate 3 is balanced around you using this, so don’t feel pressured into holding onto your Divine Intervention charge just for this.
Best Use Cases For Sunder The Heretical
For specific encounters where Sunder the Heretical is worth using, consult the expandable table below.
Spoiler Warning
This expandable section contains major A3 story and encounter spoilers.
While this ability is great in just about every tough combat encounter, donotuse Sunder the Heretical in the House of Hope boss fight.Raphael can reflect incoming Radiant damage. Since this ability deals exclusively Radiant damage, your Cleric will die if Raphael is caught in the blast radius.

Golden Generosity
Call upon your deity to provide you with a rich bounty of potions and Camp Supplies.
Golden Generosity spawns a chest filled with consumable items. This chest spawns ten potions and enough food to last one Long Rest. The food totals to 48 camp supplies, and most potions are Uncommon rarity.

From limited testing, it appears that the items you get from this chest are static. The chest contains the following items:
Since Camp Supplies and potions are fairly common,we do not recommend using Divine Intervention on Golden Generosity. Most of the potions provided are easily crafted, and the food provided is can be purchased for around 100 Gold. Compared to the other three Divine Intervention variants, Golden Generosity is simply never worth using.

How To Use Divine Intervention Multiple Times Per Playthrough
While Divine Intervention may only be cast once, this restriction is per character, not per playthrough. This means that if you have multiple Clerics in your group, you can cast Divine Intervention multiple times on your journey. We can take advantage of this by using Hirelingsoffered by Withers.
Speak to Withers and recruit any Hireling.Once recruited, respec the Hireling’s class to a Cleric and reach level ten. This will allow them to use Divine Intervention once. Cast it, then dismiss the Hireling. Recruit a different Hireling and repeat the process. Withers has 12 Hirelings you can recruit, so you can do this 12 times—further increased if you temporarily respec your origin characters as Clerics.
We recommend using your Hirelings to castArm Thy Servantmultiple times. Four Hirelings will let you equip a full party with Devotee Maces, greatly increasing your party’s damage output for most of Act 3. If you want to stock up on potions, you may cast Golden Generosity a few times.Use your Hirelings to create items; save the Divine Intervention charge on Shadowheart and other Clerics, as they can be used to cast Sunder the Heretical or Opulent Revival during tough combat encounters.
