You’ll want to think long and hard about the religion you choose since, while you can remove your character’s religious trait, you won’t be able to adopt a new religion. Moreover, while the religions have light gameplay changes, the Serpent’s Embrace can either greatly improve your character’s effectiveness in combat or equally impair them if not playing to the religion’s gameplay style.

Raised Enlightened Perks
You can alsotalk to Andy Singh inside the House of Enlightened, a devotee follower of the Enlightened, andpick up a short missionto help a local get back to their home from The Well Medbay. You don’t need to use the Raised Enlightened Trait to access this mission.
Where To Find The House Of Enlightened Chest
If youhave the Raised Enlightened religious trait, you can loot theHouse of Enlightened Chestin New Atlantis.
To get to the chest, use the elevator found betweenTerrabrew Coffee and Jemison Mercantile in the Spaceport districtof New Atlantis and enter The Well. Here, you’ll find the House of Enlightened in thecenter of the atrium.
The sign can be spotted exiting the walkway from the elevator; however, it’s easy to miss due to its worn look.
Walk past Andy Singh,enter the short corridor, and take a left. You’ll find the chest to the right of the whiteboard.
The House of the Enlightened Chest contains books on the philosophies and teachings of the religion, medical supplies, and theInclement Weather outfit, a cool poncho That offers a +10 boost to your health stat.
None of the items in the House of the Enlightened Chest are unique, as you can find the Inclement Weather outfit by looting pirates.
How To Remove The Raised Enlightened Trait
You can remove the Raised Enlightened trait from your character bytalking to Andy Singh, who can be foundsitting at the desk of the House of Enlightened.
You can’t leave a religion to join another. Although there is a dialogue with Keeper Aquilius that states,“I feel like the Enlightened are on the right path,”it does not lead to you joining the Enlightened.
The Universal Religion Overview And Chest Location
Followers of the Universal religionbelieve in a god guided humanity to the starsby gently leading humans to develop a Grav Drive.
You’ll findKeeper Aquiliusoutside theSanctum Universum, the follower’s place of worship in New Atlantis. He will ask you to read his book, which can be found on the pedestal in the Sanctum Universum’s interior.

The Serpent’s Embrace Overview
The Serpent’s Embrace are fanatics who worship a deity named theGreat Serpent. Followers worship the Great Serpent out of fear, as it is believed that it will return one day and devour the weak.
The Serpent’s Embrace followers believe that the Great Serpent can be seen during Grav Drive jumps. Hence, the+25 stat bonus to Health and Oxygenthat followers of the religion receive every time they jump to a new system in space.
The Serpent’s Embrace isviewed as a cult of fanaticsand linked to pirates and those of the Crimson Fleet. If you’re role-playing as an evil character, then the Serpent’s Embrace is a great choice.
How To Remove The Serpent’s Embrace Religious Trait
House Va’ruun, the Serpent’s Embrace’s place of worship, is not found on New Atlantis, so you won’t be able to meet many followers until you progress further into the story.
However, you can findMir’za in a holding cell in a UC Security buildingin theNew Atlantis Spaceport district. You can gain a bit of background of the Serpent’s Embrace religion by talking to her and remove the Serpent’s Embrace trait by selecting the corresponding dialogue option:
Which Religious Trait Is Best?
Froma role-playing perspective, there are many reasons why you might choose any of the three religions to follow. However, by purely a gameplay view,the Serpent’s Embrace is the best religious trait to choose.
This is because you’ll gaina pseudo-permanent buffto your health and oxygen stats. Each time you use your Grav Drive to jump to a new system, you’ll gain the Serpent’s Embrace buff forfive in-game hours. But failing to jump during this time, you’ll get a penalty to your health and oxygen stats equal to the buff.
The Raised Universal and Raised Enlightenedoffer only starting itemsto give you a head start.
