An interesting thing about Ultraviolet is that along with other equipment and mechanics in the game, they got a bit of an overhaul. To the delight of many it turns out. So if you haven’t touched the game in a while or are still scratching your head about what this feature is, then here’s all you need to know about Ultraviolet in Phasmophobia.
What Is Ultraviolet?
For those who may not have heard of this feature,Ultraviolet is the new name for Fingerprint Evidence. It’s something everyone who’s played the game will have encountered at some point as you’ll regularly see thesespectral handprintsplastered on most surfaces across the various haunted maps. Though theycan’t be seen with the naked eyeunder normal light, instead you need touse a special piece of equipment.
Previously you could see prints byshining your UV torch aroundand they would appear onlyinside the radius of the beam. It worked well, but it made keeping track of discoveries a little tricky and if you were on your own it wasdifficult to get a good evidence photowithout them fading away. Now, however, when a handprint is revealed by a UV light it will take on a “charged” state.

Itonly takes a few secondsto charge a print up, but once you do it willstay revealedeven without a UV light shone on it. It onlylasts a few seconds, but it makes it much easier to show the rest of your team where exactly you found a print.
It alsomakes taking a photograph of it much smootherand those cheeky snaps are good for grabbingextra cash for upgrades. It may only befive dollars and five XP per snap, but every little helps.

Footprintshave also been changed and will only show up when aGhost steps on top of a Salt Pilefirst.
Ultraviolet Equipment Tiers
Just like every other gadget in the game, theUltraviolet equipmenthas been given a little remodeling. Previously you just had alittle UV torchthat didn’t shine too far and wasregularly underusedas there was much more practical gear in the truck to choose.
Now itcomes in three tierswith the most basic level providing equipment that you’llimmediately want to upgrade themas quickly as you possibly can. Here’s each Tier of Ultraviolet gear and what they include.

Item Description
Level One
A basic Glowstick. UV light lasts for 60 seconds, shake to re-use.
Level Two
A UV light. The torch has a longer range and a faster charging time on prints.
Level Three
An improved UV Light Pro. Larger UV light area and the fastest charge time on prints.
Advanced equipment is gated off behind a level and cash requirement. For UV, the level unlocks areLevel 21 and Level 56.

How To Spot Prints
There’s alot of evidence to findin Phasmophobia, but luckily prints are fairly common for ghosts. Theonly exception to the rule is Wraiths, which leave none, andthe Obakiwhich does leave prints but has apercentage chance to completely hide them.
In general, you’ll encounter prints around doors, switches, windows, keyboards of computers, cooler boxes, andoccasionally mirrors on certain maps. Specific maps like the Prison, Camp Woodwin, and Maple Lodge also haveunique print locationssuch aslanterns and benchesfor the Camps, and onbars or keyholes of cell doorsin the Prison.

Prints willfade out of existence after around two minutes, but you’re able to tweak this in the custom settings if you want to give yourself an easier time grabbing those photographs. Also, only one image capture counts per print location, so make it a good one.
Glowstick Changes
Good news for those who like to make their investigation houses look like raves asGlowsticks have been given a revamp. Now theycount as UV light sources, they cost 20 dollars and you’re allowed amaximum of twoof them. Since they’re classed asUltraviolet equipmentinstead of light sources, that means they can now reveal prints.
One of the biggest benefits to this change is that you candump a stick down on the groundand leave it there tocharge up a print for a photographif you’re playing solo. Because the Glow Stick uses aradius of light instead of a directed beam, you may essentially consider it aUV AOE. Which is good for small areas, but not so much wide open spaces.

They’re alsonot an infinite light sourcethough as they start at their maximum brightness and thendim over time, roughly aroundten seconds. It can be shaken to revitalize the light, but it’ll getless brighter over timeafter each shake.
Dump Glowsticks next to a salt pile as arudimentary ghost trapto automaticallycharge up any footprintsthat appear.
