There are numerous ships inStarfieldthat will take you around the cosmos. You can cruise around on luxury liners, shuffle around enormous amonts of cargo, or zip around on compact scout ships.
After finishing one of the main quests involving Walter Shroud, he will talk to you about a project his company is working on. The development has hit a roadblock, and he thinks that you could help get the project moving again. Depending on the choices you make with the team, you can either get the Kepler S or Kepler R ship, for free.
Talk With The R&D Team At Stroud-Eklund Staryard
Go to the Stroud-Eklund Staryardin the Narion System. This will be orbiting above Deepala’s moon,Dalvik. Once youdock to the starship, head inside to find your contact.
Make your way into one of the nearby conference rooms tofind Jules Degante, the project lead, andspeak with her. She will get you up to speed on how the R&D team is tasked with coming up withdesigns for the next big starship for Stroud-Eklund.
The R&D team consists ofJules, the project lead;Frank, the lead designer;Ella, the senior technical designer;Mike, a senior engineer; andNev, the marketing lead. You’ll eventually get the chance to talk to all of them.
Thefirst thing to resolve is the budget issue, as Jules puts it. This is whereyour decisions will start affecting the type of shipyou can receive at the end of the quest.
If you want to pursue a larger budget, you willfirst need to convince Jules herselfto go along with it. Before trying to persuade Jules,take a dose of Hippolytaor Paramour to help yourbuff up your persuasion chances.
If youfail the persuasion attempt on Jules, you can stilldevelop the Kepler R ship by paying 100,000 creditsto help front the budget cost.
After deciding which way to go for a budget, you will be able totalk with the rest of the teamabout their ideas.Supporting everyone’s ideas helps lead to the kitchen sink proposal, whileoffering critiques is a way to focus the designto get the smaller ship.
Gather Market Data
The next big step in this project will be togather some market data. You will need to have the option tocomplete two different missions to help. One mission will have youtransport cargo or passengersto a specific destination, and the other will bea bounty mission.
You canaccess a mission board right outside the conference roomwhere the R&D team is working. These will be randomly generated, but are fairly straightforward. It’s up to you whether you want to do both, but you need tocomplete at least one to move forward in the quest.
Once the market data is gathered,return to Jules for your final decisionwith this project. You will either need tomake everyone compromise on something, or you cantry a teambuilding exercise to get everyone to get along. Choose the former if you want the
Finalize The Design With Walter Stroud
Head back to the Lodgeon Jemison.Find Walter and talk to himabout the project you’ve been helping with. He’ll comment on the design based on the choices you’ve made, andthe quest will be completed. You’ll receiveexperience, credits, and a brand-spanking-new shipfor all your efforts.
Collect Your New Ship
With the project completed, you get one of the very first ships manufactured. It will beautomatically available in your fleet, and you can change it tomake it your home ship at any ship vendor.
TheKepler S is a B class ship, while theKepler R is a C classship. You will need tolevel up yourPiloting skillto the appropriate rank before you can pilot your new ship.
Kepler S Ship - Focused Design
TheKepler S shipis what you will receive through the “Overdesigned” quest if you choose tofocus on a smaller budget,critique people’s ideas, andmake everyone compromiseon something.
Unfortunately, the Kepler S shipdoesn’t come with any weapons, so you would have toadd them in yourself later. Other than that, the Kepler S ship is a very decent ship to add to your fleet.

Kepler R Ship - Kitchen Sink Design
TheKepler R shipis what you will receive through the “Overdesigned” quest if you choose tofocus on a larger budget,support people’s ideas, and ultimatelylead a group meditation session.
The Kepler S might be decent, but theKepler R ends up being the better ship in almost every way. Itsstats are betteracross the board, it comes with weapons, and it willsell for a huge chunk of change more than the Kepler S. It’s slightly heavy, sosuffers a little in maneuverability.
