TheAssassin’s Creedseries is known for taking you to all sorts of historical locations, making you get lost not only in the gameplay but also in the locales. Because of how Assassins traverse the world, you end up getting an intimate relationship with each building you climb and vista you discover.
Mirageis set apart from more recent games in the series, going back to the roots of how these cities were built. While games likeValhallaandOdysseyhave impressive worlds, their massiveness makes it impossible to have that direct relationship you could have before.

Spoiler Warning!
Where Does Assassin’s Creed Mirage Take Place?
The majority of the gametakes place in Baghdad, the now capital of Iraq. This version of Baghdad is of the ninth century, much like the events of Valhalla.
This means that, not only you can expect references to that game, but also you’ll see a Baghdad when the sciences and culture was thriving.

But the game doesn’t exclusively take place in Baghdad, sinceyou’ll also visit Anbar.
It is considered to be the closest city to Baghdad, according to the game;while in real life it was fairly close, Fallujah is actually the closest. Still, the attention to detail within the game is astonishing.
Is The Setting Of Mirage The Same As The First Assassin’s Creed?
While similar in many ways, the places where the two games take place are completely different. The similarities, however, are purposeful, since there was a clear attempt at taking the series back to its roots, not only in size but also in setting.
The original Assassin’s Creed takes place in modern-day Israel, Palestine, and Syria. But there’s one location both games share, that being Alamut. There is a real life region with that name, northwest of Iran; it’s also mountainous, so it’s clearly based on that place.
Alamut was theoriginal stronghold of the Order of Assassins. It’s where the first game begins, and you can see its ruins many years later in Mirage.
