Baldur’s Gate 3’s Underdark is a fascinating but perilous environment. Almost everything down in the Underdark wants to kill you, whether it’s flora or fauna. If you’ve explored the Ebonlake Grotto, you’ll likely be introduced to Derryth, a merchant who has traveled to the depths of the Underdark with her husband to collect Noblestalk. But Baelen has gone missing, and It is up to you to find the missing mushroom picker.
While Baelen can be found in the nearby Sussur Tree area, he is trapped; surrounded by Bibberbangs, a green glowing fungi that expels plumes of flammable spores into the air. One false step and one by one, the Bibberbangs will release their spores that ignite from a nearby torch!

The ways you can explore and complete quests around the Sword Coast are myriad, and the Find The Mushroom Picker quest is no different. We’ve updated this guide to bring you even more ways to save the Mushroom Picker and get some new loot while you’re at it.
Where To Find Baelen The Mushroom Picker
The Find the Mushroom Picker quest is a short quest but will require finesse in your maneuvering and teleportation skills. You’llfind Baelenand the chamber of Bibberbangs in theSussur Tree areaby climbing down theknotted roots (X:10, Y:104). It’s locatedsouthwestof theMyconid Colony.
Rescuing Baelen With Teleportation Or Flying
You can save Baelen with a teleportation spell or scroll:
These spells and scrolls can all be used tosave Baelenand harvest the Noblestalkwithout disturbing the Bibberbangs.
To rescue Baelen, you mustnavigate to his packfoundsouthof thetorch.We suggest using yourteleportation spell or scrollof choice and teleporting onto the rocks asfar away from the Bibberbangsas possible. Bibberbangs willpuff upwhen they are about to explode.
Keep an eye on your character’ssilhouettewhen preparing your spell, as thishighlights where your character will castthe spell from. Gettoo closeto the Bibberbangs, andBaelen will be toasted.
Once you reach Baelen’s Pack, loot the Misty Step scrolls.Next, either teleport to Baelen and give him the scrollorthrow the Misty Step scrollonto the ground next to him. Both options allow him to escape.
Now, you canteleport away from the Bibberbangsand talk to Baelen to get some information on how he got into his predicament.
Some races, like theGithyanki, already know Misty Step. If you are playing as a Githyanki, you can learn Misty Step from the get-go. Likewise, you can alwayshave Lae-zel save the Mushroom Pickerif necessary.
There are also severalequipment itemsthatgrant youor your partyteleportation spells.

Amulet Of Misty Step
Looted from the Gilded Chest in Priestess Gut’s room in the Goblin Camp’s Shattered Sanctum.
Grants the wearer access to the level two conjuration spell, Misty Step.
Looted from True Soul Nere’s corpse in Grymforge.
There are also someAct Two and Act Three equipment itemsthat grant Misty Step, like the Boots of Very Fast Blinking, that you can win from the Djinni Akabi, but you won’t be able to travel back to Act One after reaching certain points in the game.
Rescuing Baelen Using The Side Ledge
Sometimes, you only have enough juice in you to teleport once, and it can get a little complicated (and pricey) to cast a teleportation spell more than once. Luckily, there’sa non-magical wayto maneuver through the Bibberbangs without triggering them.
If you’re able toget the scrollin Baelen’s packfrom a distance, or you have aMisty Stepscroll to give him, there is a non-magical way to get to Baelen’s location, or even the location of his pack.
Around theoutskirts of the Bibberbang field, there is aseries of ledgesthat you’re able to use tohop to Baelenor hispack’s location.
Don’t bring your companionsor any summoned familiars with you into the Bibberbang field. They maytrigger the mushroomsaccidentally.
Theledges hug the left wallof the Bibberbang cavern and can bejumped toeasily. There’s a ledge rightabove where Baelen’s pack and torch arelying on the ground, and there’s another ledgeright above Baelen’s location.You can use either of these ledges to jump down to Balen or his pack.
What’s more, if you don’t feel like saving Baelen, you canignore himentirely and follow the ledge to thecoveted Noblestalkmushroom. The ledgesterminate at the Noblestalk’s location.
Even if you decide not to use the ledge to get to Baelen, the ledge is worth exploring. On one of the ledges in the cavern, there is askeleton for you to loot.On the Skeleton’s body is theExplorer’s Ring,which grants you+1 to both Survival and Nature.
Rescuing Baelen With Mage Hand
If you don’t have any teleport spells at the ready, you could use Mage Hand to save Baelen without lifting a finger.
You can useMage Hand to throw Baelen’s Packto him. He will then pick up the pack and then use a scroll of Misty Step to teleport to you.
Return to Derrythto earn theGloves of Uninhibited Kushigoas a reward. Derryth will explain that they mustharvest Noblestalkbefore they can leave the Underdark. Although the Find the Mushroom Picker quest will now be complete, youcan still help Derrythand Baelenobtain Noblestalk.

How To Obtain The Noblestalk
Using either theMage Handtothrow the torchat the wall or anice or water spelltoextinguish the torch flameis the safest method to acquire the Noblestalk. you may thenuse Mage Hand to throw the Noblestalkto one of your party members. Or you can use anElixir of Poison Resistanceto run up to it and grab it.

Attempting topick up the Noblestalk with Mage Hand will consume it.In addition, throwing the Noblestalkon the ground will cause it tovanish.
