Starfieldhas some pretty spiffy-sounding weapons, several of which pertain to the main quests revolving around the Hunter and the Emissary. It figures; Starborn don’t pack lightly. Among them is the Last Priest, a Va’ruun Painblade perfect for pretty much any melee-oriented character build. Or for anybody who wants something sharp to slice through their foes if they’re unexpectedly backed into a corner.

To get the Last Priest, you need to play your cards right during a particular assignment. We’ll tell you when, where, and what to do, so that you, too, can carve some pain into those foolhardy enough to come up to you in close quarters scuffles.

Progress Through The Main Quest Until After ‘Unearthed’

First, a disclaimer:we’re not saying you should beeline Starfield’s main questin pursuit of the Last Priest. The Constellation quests constituting the main story surely range in writing quality, but some are pretty solid in this regard. And besides, there’s plenty else to do in the meantime - like joining other factions, for instance.

That said, yes. You will need to reach a certain point in the main questbefore the chance to nab this Painblade can be yours. Yet, somewhat paradoxically,‘Infinity’s End’, the quest in question, isn’t actually a main questin the truest sense of the word.

Instead,by siding with the Hunter at the conclusion of ‘Unearthed’, which occurs in what we’d consider ‘the third act’ of the main story, the Hunter will supply you with a side quest you may tacklecalled ‘Infinity’s End’. By all means, do it; the reward is too great to ignore.

There are both narrative intrigues and quest reward considerations when it comes to whether to side with the Hunter or the Emissary (or compete against both). If youdon’tally with the Hunter, you can get the fantastic Unmitigated Violence rifle later, but doing so will lock you out of the Last Priest this playthrough.

Complete ‘Infinity’s End’ By Savagery Or Silver Tongue

As instructed, head back to New Atlantis. Your mission? Toassassinate Keeper Aquilus. Your actual options?Either do so, or lie and pass a persuasion checkwhen you apprise the Hunter of the situation. If you elect to choose the latter, you will also need to pass an initial persuasion checkthrough which your character insists

It’s morbidly funny, right? The Hunter wants you to ensure someone with, shall we say, deep-rooted ties to him kicks the bucket ahead of schedule.Simply kill Aquilus, and the Hunter will give you the Last Priestfree of charge, no further questions asked. This is, while clearly dubious in nature, probably the wise course (from a utilitarian perspective)if your persuasion skill hasn’t been ranked up at all.

Down some Hippolyta before attempting both persuasion checks if you’re hoping to handle things more discreetly. And if you’re going for some violence instead, by goodness, avoid a bounty by making sure you kill Aquilus quietly - it shouldn’t be hard, given his propensity to wander off alone.

Compelling Aquilus to flee, and then successfully tricking the Hunter into believing your work was handled to the letter, results in the same sharp-edged reward. Surely, the Sanctum Universum would frown on cold-blooded murder, but don’t let us tell you what to do…
