Equipment is very important inLies of P. Your armor pieces determine your defenses and your amulets can affect your build in very impactful ways. Perhaps most important, however, is your weapon. This will dictate how quickly you may attack, the shapes and motions that your moves take, and how well your stats will affect the damage you deal.

When you begin the game, you’ll wake up in a train car. After walking forward a little bit, you are prompted to pick your first weapon. There are three to choose from, each belonging to a different combat style - but which is best?

An important thing to note at this point is that all three of these weapons can be purchased very early on in the game, so picking up any of these weapons is not limited to this starting choice. Instead, this choice is more important fordetermining your starting stats.
The fact that you can pick up copies of all three of these weapons does have one implication that may sway your choice - whichever weapon you begin with is the only one you can get a second copy of.
If you enjoy a weapon’s moveset (which is dictated by the weapon’s handle and can betransferred to another weapon’s blade using weapon assembly), you may want to double up on that weapon.
For afirst playthrough, we recommend going for theBalanced style. The Puppet Saber is an easy weapon to get used to, and the relatively equal spread of stats will give you ample opportunity to experiment with different weapon types and builds without being hampered by low starting stats.
The fact that you can actuallyrespec your statsin this game, setting you back to your base stats (picked here), means that if you wanted to be incredibly thorough with your planning and go for adedicated Motivity or Technique build, it would be beneficial to go for either of those combat styles. This gives you the lowest possible score in the alternative stat, letting you put your earlier levels in other areas that are more important to your build.
It may be worth highlighting theDexterity buildas agood option for Soulslike veterans.
This build starts with the highestVigorstat - enough to get a Technique build comfortably past the midgame without a single point of investment. Your skills should carry you through the tricky areas until you can boost your Vitality and Capacity, and the game’s Technique weapons are well-suited to Soulslike vets in playstyle.
