Super Mariohas some of the most recognizable characters in gaming, and that distinction extends to enemies. From the ubiquitous Goombas all the way up to Bowser himself, the hordes of the Koopa Kingdom are just as iconic as Mario, Luigi, and the rest.
Like every character in the series, enemies in Super Mario ooze personality. With so many distinct, memorable faces, they could even form their own constellations in the night sky. If the zodiac were based on Mario’s foes rather than animals and mythology, which one would you be?
12Aries (March 21 - April 19) - Bullet Bill
Direct, and to-the-point, Ariespicks a goal and flies toward it at full speed, refusing to let anyone get in their way. There’s no more apt description for Bullet Bill, who soars straight ahead in an unerring path.
Ariesprefers to go solo, shouldering both the responsibility and the rewards for their hard work. The same is true of Bullet Bill, as even in a group they’ll operate as individuals without regard for what the others are doing.
11Taurus (April 20 - May 20) - Koopa Troopa
The Koopa Troopas are some of the hardest-working members of Bowser’s army. From guarding fortresses to impeding Mario’s path, they’rededicated and loyal,just like Taurus. Of course, they also know when to take it easy; most Koopa Troopasmaintain a leisurely pace, even when out on patrol.
Koopa Troopas even share Taurus' attention to detail; you can tell a Koopa’s job just by looking at their shell, and they take their roles seriously.
10Gemini (May 21 - June 20) - Hammer Bros
On the surface, the Hammer Bros seem like an easy pick for Gemini, the twins. After all, theyalmost always appear in pairs! Their affinity for this Air Sign goes much deeper than that, however.
The Hammer Bros are theultimate team players, working in tandem better than any other members of the Koopa Kingdom. They’readaptable, quick thinkers, jumping around and changing their throw trajectories to always keep Mario and Luigi on their toes.
9Cancer (June 21 - July 22) - Shy Guy
Cancer might not look like they’re the most sociable sign, but that’s only from outside their tight-knit circle of friends. Cancerloves the people closest to themmore than anything, making them the most loyal member of any group.
True to their name, Shy Guys arealoof from the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom, only appearing occasionally and keeping to themselves even then. This might have something to do with them being from the dream-world of Subcon, which wasn’t even part of the Super Mario universe originally. Nevertheless, they’ve adapted well to their new home, and are now just as much a part of the gang as Toad or Kamek.
8Leo (July 23 - August 22) - The Sun
Leo only needs to show up once to make a huge impression. The Sun is a relentless enemy inSuper Mario Brothers 3that can’t be defeated and chases you through entire levels. Barring the occasional remaster likeSuper Mario All-Stars, the Sun hasn’t appeared as an antagonist in any game since.
That one appearance all the way back in 1990 was all that the Sun needed to be remembered as one of Mario’s most fearsome foes. Like Leo, theyburn bright and get attention, and nobody ever forgets.
7Virgo (August 23 - September 22) - Monty Mole
Monty Mole is ahard worker, but we rarely get to see just how much he can actually accomplish. Spending most of his time underground or below decks on Bowser’s airship, he digs large, well-planned burrows and keeps the engine room in peak order with equal gusto.
Virgo is similarly inclined to keep everything ship-shape, but in classic Earth Sign fashiondoesn’t make too big a deal about it. Just being able to enjoy the fruits of their labor is enough, and if somebody notices, that’s just the icing on the cake.
6Libra (September 23 - October 22) - Boo
Libra loves being surrounded by their friends, and can be a bit indecisive. As any Mario fan knows, that’s Boo from top to bottom! Boo loves to haunt in groups, often just hanging out in the background minding their own business.
Boo will pursue Mario and Luigias long as the plumber’s back is turned.If you face Boo head-on, they’ll suddenly become shy andfreeze, covering their eyes.Like Libra, how you see Boo is often a matter of perspective!
5Scorpio (October 23 - November 21) - Dry Bones
Scorpio is one of the most tenacious signs,never giving upin the face of a challenge. Even when things fall apart, Scorpio is ready to pick up the pieces and try again.
Dry Bones is the same way - they’re never fully defeated. Dry Bones always puts themselves back together andcarries on like nothing happened, no matter how many times they get stomped.
4Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21) - Cheep Cheep
The explorers of the zodiac love to push their boundaries and see new sights. Free-roaming Cheep Cheep fully embodies Sagittarius’impulsiveness and love of adventure.
Typically found only underwater, where they can float along wherever they feel, Cheep Cheep often gets the urge to go beyond their home environment. Schools of these red fish can often be seenleaping out of the waterto catch a glimpse of the world above.
3Capricorn (December 22 - January 19) - Piranha Plant
If Capricorn is given a task, you can always be sure that they’ll take it seriously and do it right. Piranha Plants are notorious forguarding pipes with their lives, and nothing short of a fireball will stop them from popping in and out to disrupt pesky plumbers looking for a shortcut.
Of course,Capricorn sees every challenge as a problem to be solved, so some Piranha Plants learn to shoot fireballs of their own, all without leaving the pipe they’re assigned to defend.
